The epidemiological outbreak of COVID-19 has affected the tourism industry to a considerable extent. An urgent demand has arisen in cruise shipping for safety measures, maximum density policies in the shared spaces and monitoring to ensure compliance of the passengers and the crew to regulations. EmBRACE addresses the technology to help with social distancing in the form of Bracelets worn by passengers that indicate violations of social distancing policies and by statistical analysis of density in shared spaces. These Bracelets, developed by the German ICT solution provider Telocate, integrate a CLEC solution of low-power IoT devices with precise ultrasound distance metering and Bluetooth-Low-Energy (BLE) communication. The Greek system integrator Optionsnet is established in the market of ICT solutions for cruise ships and intends to transfer the technology to implement a business case of technologically aided social distancing support towards shipping companies.
